New Site Exposes Your Secrets To Everyone, Without Your Knowledge

Do you hate your boss? Did you take drugs or are you in serious hung over? Better keep these secrets into yourself rather than posting it on your Facebook wall because if you post it, the whole world will know about it- That is what the site “We Know What You’re Doing” exactly does.

It takes all your publically available information from Facebook and post it with your picture and name attached. The information can be your phone number, your status updates or anything.

The website was created by 18-year-old Callum Haywood who lives in Nottingham, England. He used Facebook’s Graph API, as well as publicly available Foursquare check-ins, to automatically generate streams of foolish, rage, and over-sharing publicly available Facebook posts. These posts are categorized into four columns: Who wants to get fired? (people complain about their job and bosses); Who’s hung over?; Who’s taking drugs?; and Who’s got a new phone number? The interesting thing is there is no anonymity to the posts. Every post includes the user’s profile picture, their first name and initial.

The intension behind creation of the website? Well, Haywood wants people to define their privacy settings. A good advice from an 18 year old. “Make sure Control Your Default Privacy is not set to ‘Public. Users have to choose the “Custom” privacy settings, “and go through each option to choose who can see what,” says Haywood. “The problem is not with Facebook themselves, when used correctly, their privacy controls are very good. The problem is… people simply don’t understand the risks of sharing everything.”

Haywood’s inspiration to build the website came from a video entitled “I Know What You Did Five Minutes Ago.” According to him the website is getting good response with more than 100,000 unique visitors entering the site in the 27 hours since its launch.

So better login to your Facebook account and check your privacy settings or visit We Know What You’re Doing, to know whether the world already saw your posts.

Android Grew A Whopping 500 Percent In India Last Year

More than one million android activations are happening around the world in a day and the statistics places India among the most Android loving countries. According to Hugo Barra, director of product management, Android, India saw a whopping 500 percent growth in Androids in the last one year.

The fact was revealed at the ongoing Google’s I/O developers conference. "Android is a truly global phenomenon. We now have 400 million Android devices. In countries like Brazil, India and Thailand we have seen it grow by 500% in the last one year,” Barra said. He also showed a heat map representing the number of Android activations around the world in which India was depicted in yellow color, indicating high number of activations.

The whopping growth of Android in the country may be due to the vast range of Android powered devices available in the market from Rs 5000 to Rs 40,000. Apple’s iOS powered devices are above the reach of an average Indian. Moreover other platforms like Blackberry, symbian and Windows failed to provide the user experience and features offered by Android and iOS.

Android has a 59 percent share in the Smartphone market as on May 2012, followed by Apples iOS with a market share of 23 percent. Among the Android vendors, Samsung leads the Indian Smartphone market with a share of 45 percent, which the company hopes to increase to 60 percent by this year end.

The latest version of Android, Jelly Bean, announced at the conference will come with a support for Hindi, inbuilt in the OS.

This 17 Year Old Indian American Genius Is Finally Taking Facebook's Job Offer

Nive Jayasekar, the high school graduate who swept away the whole applause at a hackathon event in California had finally decided to work as a partner engineer intern at Facebook. In the programming contest held on June 16-17, organized by the Social-Loco Conference , Nive had  amazed the Facebook executives with her knowledge on mobile-app development and had earned an on-spot offer to work with the company from Emily White, Facebook’s director of mobile partnerships.

After winning the competition, Nive even got a chance to present her app before Emily White."Nive is amazing and I'm going to be working for her someday," was the response from the White, after the meeting.

But after getting the offer to work with Facebook, which is every intern’s dream, Nive was reluctant to take up. Moreover, she was bound to join Carnegie Mellon University.

But now, after much thought, she has finally resolved to be a part of the social network for a summer internship.

"I will be working as a partner engineer intern focusing on mobile app development," Nive told Business Insider.

The highlight about the app is that it is made for both the novices and experts in gardening who can find it too easy to use it. Nive developed a single app for those separate categories addressing both the audience.

Now, she is porting her app to Apple’s iOS devices and Android Smartphones.

3 Unknown Ways How Google Maps Is Helping The World

Google’s greatest asset is its huge chunks of data. If you think this data is only used for the social and knowledge initiatives of the company, you are probably wrong. Different organizations in the world are coordinating with Google to power some nonprofit initiatives which will do well for the entire humanity and bring a global change.

Here are some projects which harvest Google’s power.

Google Earth Engine is Completely Monitoring Earth’s Environment

Scientists are looking out for various measures to monitor the changes in earth’s environment. For this purpose, Google is helping them with Google Earth technology which combines satellite imagery and historical data.

Earth Engine combines Google Earth's data and Google’s immense cloud computing infrastructure to provide a powerful environmental analysis package that can be used to measure all kinds of data about the Earth, including extent of forests and oceans to measuring carbon levels in rainforests.

The time for scientists to process these data is chopped down by Google's cloud computing resources, and the software makes things easier with pre-processing features like automatically removing clouds and haze from satellite images. Google is donating a whopping 10 million CPU hours to researchers who want to use Google Earth Engine, which should do plenty to help track deforestation and measure the world's water resources.

Google Map is Helping the Disabled

This is the story about how Google Map helped disabled persons to find comfortable places that serve to their requirements. It can be restaurants, Spas or theaters. Jason DaSilva, a filmmaker and activist in the disability community is behind the project named AXS Maps. He took Google Map and embedded it into the project which collects crowd-sourced data on accessibility for people with canes, walkers, wheelchairs and even parents with strollers in various places in and around cities.

According to Kevin Bluer, an AXS Map developer, "One of the goals is to be able to see venues that are accessible before you go. How spacious is it on the inside? Do they have an accessibility ramp and so on.” AXS Map invites everybody to contribute the real, human powered information.

Google Earth Is Conserving Wildlife

‘Save the Elephants,’ a project created by London based nonprofit organization uses Google Earth to visualize the elephant tracking data from across Africa. It uses Google Earth’s global database of Earth imagery and detailed mapping information to track the elephants on a moving 3D backdrop of high definition images, all in real time! This allows them to monitor how elephants live which has greatly enhanced management and security of the elephants particularly in areas of Kenya, where poaching and habitat threats are causing a large drop in elephant population. The data from monitoring is used to boost enforcement efforts for ranger patrols.

July 9 Could Be The Internet Doomsday

The warnings splashed across Facebook and Google, notices sent by Internet Service Providers and a special website set up by FBI are recurrently alerting the users that the Internet is facing a major crisis due to some unknown malware.

Latest news say that unless the users in America have their computer checked soon for malware, which might have taken over their systems months ago, thousands of them will lose their Internet service on July 9.

It is unfortunate that people have hardly noticed the repeated alarms and by now more than 277,000 computers might have been infected around the world, up to 64,000 being in United States alone.

Earlier international hackers had come up with an online advertising scam wanting to take control of more than 570,000 infected computers worldwide. Later the FBI agents tracked out these hackers. And only then they could find out that if ever they try to turn off the servers, which were being used to control the computers, all the victims would have to suffer as they would lose their internet access.

It was at this time that FBI set up a website bringing in a private company to install two clean internet servers to take over those wicked servers. This temporary system, which would be shut down at 12:01 am EDT on July 9, would spare people from losing their internet service.

Even though the corrupted servers might have slowed down the Web surfing or disabled the antivirus software, it is too difficult for the people to identify that their systems are affected.

The website launched by the FBI, http://www.dcwg.org, would also help people to check whether their computers are infected.

An FBI Supervisory Special Agent, Tom Grasso noted that many of the companies providing internet service, such as Comcast, have come to the fore front to help their customers fight against the crisis. He also requested to other companies, who have not yet come forward to face the trouble, to present ample technical solutions before their customers.
